Business Unit Energy
The Energy Business Unit (EBU) was set up in 2003 and is liable for costs and revenues of its own relevant activities, in order to fully exploit the company’s energy system. The aims of the Business Unit, which became operative in 2004, include increased awareness regarding energy savings at the mills, the exploitation of the various types of power plants, the reduction of generation costs and the development of commercial activities.
The EBU performs in several areas:
-
industrial areas, activities are focused on opportunities regarding the increase of installed power, research into all possible ways of transporting energy along the company’s own power lines and those of merchants and improvements to operational, maintenance and control systems;
-
energy management: activities are concentrated on the centralized management of production and consumption measures, on the metering, balancing and dispatching of electricity and on the logistics management of natural gas through to the hourly planning of production at the Group’s plants;
-
sales areas, activities are performed by the company
Burgo Energia Srl (set up at the end of 2003) which purchases domestic and international electricity and excess production of the Group’s power plants, and sells it to non–autonomous paper mills within the Group, the free market (industrial customers, wholesalers) and also trades on the Italian Power Exchange.
The EBU is therefore currently able to manage approximately 5,000 million kWh.
