Water

  • Intake
    Water is not only a fundamental resource in paper production but also a collective asset; with this in mind the Burgo Group has undertaken policies to reduce water consumption through the use of water recycling systems. The quantity of water taken into the facility is kept under constant control and each paper mill is required to communicate all data relevant to how it has been used.

  • Water treatment
    Water used at the plants is subjected to scrupulous purification before being returned to the environment and is often cleaner than it ever was before entering the paper production process. The purification system uses cutting edge technology comprising of a series of mainly physical–chemical and biological oxidation treatment stages.
There are three stages to the water purifying process:
  • preliminary, where the bulk of impurities are filtered;
  • physical chemical processes that separate and eliminate impurities through flotation and sedimentation to recover the finer particles;
  • biological and active clay treatments where micro–organisms metabolize the pollutants.
